The Diets Conversation

As Personal Trainers our clients are bound to bring up diets.

It is almost a guarantee, and since there are so many diets out there, it can be a challenging topic.

When it comes to discussing diets with your clients, there is only one diet that truly works.

It’s not Keto, Paleo, Plant Based, or Carnivore.

It’s Consistency.

The Truth About Diets:

Individual diets don’t matter.

It’s the right combination of diet and individual that works.

Every single Diet that we hear about has plenty of people who will say that Diet is THE DIET.

Well, that might be the case, for that one person.

Why?

Because…

  • They could remain consistent.
  • It put them in a calorie balance that aligned with their goals.
  • The foods allowed in that diet didn’t cause any bodily issues for that person.

Consistency Over Time Is The Only Thing That Will Lead To Results

And that applies to more than just nutrition or weight loss.

The same can be said for improving your…

  • Strength
  • Conditioning
  • Business
  • Relationship
  • Intelligence

Consistent Action Over Time

Now let me get this straight, I do believe…

  • There are foods most people should avoid.
  • The quality of food we eat is important.
  • Different foods for different people can make or break their health.

That being said, have you ever heard of the “Twinkie Diet”?

The Twinkie Diet:

Professor Mark Haub followed a nutrition plan that involved entirely junk food, with protein and fiber supplements, to lose 27 Lbs in 10 weeks.

He followed this plan consistently remaining 800 calories below the amount of calories it would take to maintain his body weight when he started.

He improved his body composition, decreased body fat, and improved his cholesterol.

Remember, this was only 10 weeks.

If this was a life time plan it probably would lead to different results.

I definitely do not recommend this, I just want to point out that it did work.

Because Professor Haub remained consistent with the plan that kept him in a proper calorie balance.

With any goal that requires nutrition, which is all fitness related goals, consistency within the proper calorie balance is really what matters.

A specific Diet isn’t the key to changing body composition.

In fact…

Research has proven that when protein and total calories are equal between two different diets, it does not matter where the remainder of calories come from, either more carbohydrate calories or more fat calories, weight loss would be essentially the same.

  • High Fat
  • High Carb
  • Only Plants

It doesn’t really matter so long as Total Calories and Protein are taken care of.

Discussing Diets:

So, when discussing diets and nutrition with your clients it’s more important to help them find out what they can be consistent with versus what might be ideal for their goals.

Ideal does not equal consistency.

It’s also important to point out the reason a particular diet works.

For example, in the argument in favor of Keto, the foods you have to eat are typically more satiating. If you switch from cereal for breakfast to scrambled eggs with bacon and avocado you’re going to be much more full! Even though it’s a lot more calories for breakfast, it would likely decrease calories consumed afterwards.

Or you could also point out the potential consequences of a particular diet.

So now, in the argument against Keto, physiologically it’s a worse source of energy for weight training, it makes going out to eat harder, and you can’t have bread or beer. Normally that will turn someone off 😂

In reality, every single diet can work and it’s important for your clients to realize that.

And if you want something to help your clients see that, well then here you go!

This is a playlist of interviews I have done with people that have had a successful weight loss transformation! I hope it helps 😁
